New Bridgerton lead actor Yerin Ha reveals the emotional moment she found out she’d been cast

“I was having breakfast with my mom at a cafe in Korea,” Ha said before sharing her mother’s reaction

Yerin Ha remembers exactly where she was when she found out she had received the last clue Bridgerton!

On Monday, September 30, Shondaland — the production company home to the hit Netflix series — released a YouTube video from the Australian-born actress, 29, and her costar Luke Thompson, in which they asked a few burning questions about themselves and the show.

More than halfway through, Ha, who has been cast as Sophie, was asked about the reaction she received from friends and family when she found out she got the role.

“So when I got the part, I was having breakfast with my mom at a cafe in Korea and I stepped outside and it was so funny because she actually knew right away when I was jumping through the streets of Gangnam. [a district in Seoul, South Korea] that I got the part,” Ha said as she sat next to 36-year-old Thompson.

The news received an overwhelmingly positive response from Ha’s mother, even though the couple had to leave shortly afterwards.

“She came out crying and after the phone call she said, ‘We have to go home. I think I have indigestion,’ and so we left,” the Korean actress said as she laughed with her costar.

Ha continued, “It was really beautiful to share that moment with her, I think.”

Then the Halo actress recalled sharing the news with one of her best friends, who she told over FaceTime.

Ha reenacted her friend’s reaction, showing her putting down her phone and seemingly in shock, yet extremely happy.

“She was like, ‘Oh my God. You’re busy Bridgerton!’ ”

According to Ha, she couldn’t have asked for a better response from her loved ones.

“It’s so nice to have people who really love and support you,” she said, adding that those around her are happy to see her grow on her journey.

Her role was announced in August and followed by a 30-second teaser shared Bridgerton‘s X (formerly Twitter) account on September 11.

“Dear kind reader, now that preparations for the next social season are almost underway, we would like to welcome the newest member of the Ton…. We introduce Yerin Ha as Sophie Bridgerton Season 4!” read the message.

In the clip, Ha is alone in a room as she walks to a rack of clothes – gloves and dresses perfect for the Regency era.

Season 4 of Bridgerton focuses on the family’s second-eldest brother, Benedict Bridgerton (Thompson), and his love story with Ha’s Sophie. Seasons 1-3 of Bridgertonand its spin-off, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Storyare streaming on Netflix.
