Gaten Matarazzo feels all the emotions like Stranger things is nearing an end.

In an interview with The Hollywood ReporterMatarazzo, 22, explained that the last two seasons of Stranger things taking longer than expected to air was actually a blessing in disguise. Considering he’s been on the show for so long, he said the idea of it ending is sad.

“I love doing it, so any delay in the process is certainly frustrating, but as we near the end of our filming process for the fifth season, I’m asking for a Time-Turner,” he joked. “It was quite shocking to realize how quickly it all flew by. I remember so many things from that first season as vividly as if it were yesterday. We were so young and it was such a weird, wild experience that it kind of blended together. So it’s not that I remember the process of filming season one incredibly sharply, but there are a few distinct things that feel like they just happened.

“And at this point, I’m almost doing it Stranger things longer than I have, he continued. “It took about ten years of my life and it’s the most formative decade of my life.”

“So I will always be very grateful, and accepting that to let that go is becoming more and more difficult, certainly, both at work and in the meaning of life,” he added. “You can always expect that next season, both work-wise and emotionally. So it’s going to be a different adjustment and I can’t wait to see what happens next.”

A tease for the upcoming fifth and final season of Stranger things, Matarazzo said it’s truly the “biggest, darkest, scariest” yet.

“I think that’s the goal,” he shared. “That’s certainly the intention behind writing it. The only consistency of this show is that it grows every year in size and scope and in the message they want to convey. So this season is no different at all and I knew they had prepared that in the first place.”

“They said, ‘Hey, this is going to be really big. We’re not going to sugarcoat it: it’s a shoot for the whole year.’ And that led to a big reaction of, ‘Oh, so we’re really going for it,’” he recalls “So we have been [going for it] and we still are. I’m glad people see it.”

Although he told THR that it would be well that he should be known as the actor forever Stranger things, Matarazzo’s latest animation project, LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, introduced him to a new world of voice acting. As a fanatic Star Wars fan, he said it was a dream to work on it alongside Mark Hamill, who has played Luke Skywalker since 1977.

“To have [Mark Hamill] Come back and do this is really nice,” Matarazzo said. “He really takes the show to the next level, and he also accentuates how brilliant the show is, as people from the original trilogy wanted to be a part of it. We are eternally grateful.”

“I am one Star Wars devil, and so when I was approached I thought, ‘I don’t care if the script is dog—; I’ll do it,” he continued. ‘And of course that wasn’t the script. So everything fell into place and it became a full-fledged dream project that was actually a fan film. Lucasfilm late [showrunners] Than [Hernandez] and Benji [Samit] getting away with pretty much anything they wanted, which in itself was a miracle.

Now, Stranger Things’ Producer and director Shawn Levy develops one Star Wars film, and that’s definitely on Matarazzo’s radar.

“We’ve definitely all thought about it a little bit, but he’s got so much on his plate right now,” he explained. “He went and went and went, and I’m really excited for him. Of course, he is a very established director who has already created some of my favorite works before he worked on them Stranger Thingsbut all these new projects are well deserved. He would bring so much levity and joy Star Warsand that’s what the franchise definitely needs right now.

He added: “So I’m here!”
